Africa in the German Federal Elections

In between Continent of Opportunities and Challenges of Migration

Africa-policy is not the easiest of themes dealt with during the German federal election. For many, demographic changes on the African continent is a phenomenon observed in fear. The GP Parliamentary Talk considers recent, international research on demographic developments and migration to find solutions to the problem of misperception and fear. What demographic obstacles could indeed be chances? We will also look at communicative pitfalls, when talking “Africa” in Germany. The implementation of an opportunity-oriented diction that does justice to the reality of the continent’s status quo will not be easy. What can we learn from past mistakes?

Speakers:

  • Prof. Susanne Fengler, Director Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism
  • Prof. Wolfgang Lutz, Founder and Director Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital

Moderation:

  • Dr Ingrid Hamm, Co-Founder and CEO Global Perspectives Initiative
