Aurora Dialogues Berlin 2018
Humanity in a Fragile World – Partnering for Change

For the second time in a row, the Aurora Dialogues 2018 took place in Berlin. On two conference days, key decision makers from across Germany, Europe and beyond met with distinguished humanitarians and Aurora Prize laureates. They discussed how multilateral and multi-stakeholder approaches can contribute to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to find solutions to the world’s most pressing humanitarian crises. In light of increasing nationalism and isolationism, the role of civil society as well as potentially new, transnational partnerships posed major topics in the Dialogues. Civil society organisations perform significant tasks. They have a noticeable lead in knowledge supporting the collection of research and data. Moreover, they provide timely assistance to vulnerable populations and serve as a counterbalance to governments facilitating impact where states or public authorities fail to do so.
The former German Ambassador to the United States and Chairman of the Munich Security Conference (MSC), Wolfgang Ischinger, opened the conference with an impressive keynote. The Dialogues are hosted by the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative in partnership with the Global Perspectives Initiatives (GPI) supported by the Federal Foreign Office, Robert Bosch Foundation, Roland Berger Foundation, UNICEF, and Ernst & Young.
