With Dr. Tom Catena – Aurora Prize Laureate 2017

In 2017, Dr. Tom Catena received the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity. With this highly endowed “Nobel Prize” for humanity, the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative annually honors personalities and organizations whose exceptional dedication is helping people in the most difficult situations.
Tom Catena received the award for his untiring work in the war zone between North and South Sudan. As the only surgeon within a 400 kilometer radius, he and his team at the Mother of Mercy Hospital are treating up to 500 people a day, saving lives under the most difficult circumstances. Accompanied by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Huber (former Chairman of the Council of the EKD) and Prof. Dr. med. Detlev Ganten (President of the World Health Summit) Tom Catena gave an Open Lecture at the ESMT in Berlin.
