Common green future? Hydrogen Partnership with Africa
Every crisis holds opportunities. Even the corona pandemic, which is already causing a devastating economic downturn in almost every country in the world and has thus presented our neighboring continent of Africa with major challenges as well. The crisis offers a historic opportunity to redefine the African market and to initiate a sustainable transformation of economies – away from dependence on raw materials. The issue of climate-neutral energy supply, in particular with green hydrogen, is moving more and more into the focus of politics and business, both in Germany and at a European level. Hydrogen technology can ensure the energy supply of Germany and Europe completely CO2-free and at the same time trigger enormous economic development opportunities in Africa. The continent has ideal natural conditions to become a driving force behind these processes and offers itself as an energy supplier.
How can Europe and Africa successfully follow a common path in the energy industry? Which locations in the west and south of the continent are particularly suitable for the production of hydrogen using renewable energies? And how can German and African partners find each other to exploit the local conditions to their mutual benefit?
