Shaping a Common Future: Perspectives on the German Africa Policy
Results of qualitative interviews with experts from Africa
The African and European continents are linked by a close, neighborly relationship. Knowing and understanding each other’s perspectives is crucial to the success of this partnership.
The Global Perspectives Initiative, together with the Allensbach Institute for Public Opinion Research, interviewed 16 renowned experts from the African continent for this GPInsight study. The decision-makers from business, academia, public health and civil society from several African countries share their perspectives on the challenges facing the continent and their expectations for future African-European/German relations.
Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development discusses the new German government’s plans with digitalization expert Youssef Travaly and Senior Climate Diplomacy Advisor at the African Climate Foundation Faten Aggad, who participated in the study:
- What needs to change to improve the relationship between the neighboring continents Africa and Europe?
- How has Covid-19 affected German/European relations with the African continent?
- How can trade between the continents become more productive for both sides by involving the private sector?
- How can the governments of Europe and Africa establish climate action plans that are in the interest of both continents?
- How can improved digital services support the development of civil society?
The discussion will be held in German and English with simultaneous translation.
