Germany’s role in international cooperation is under review. Global power shifts and growing reliance on international markets and resources are prompting a strategic reassessment, particularly in relation to the Global South. This region is becoming increasingly relevant due to its young populations, rich natural resources, and growing innovation capacity. After a year of in-depth analysis and conversations with over 45 international experts, the Commission “A Changing World – Germany and the Global South” has released its final report.
It outlines reform proposals across six key areas, from geopolitics and migration to climate finance, and provides guidance for how Germany can reshape its global partnerships. Building on these findings, we held a Global Perspectives Salon with Commission Chair Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer and other commission members, as well as stakeholders from politics, business, the media, and civil society, to examine how international partnerships can be redefined in a changing global context.
