The Need to Defend Multilateralism

with H.E. Ban Ki-moon
Seventy-five years ago, the United Nations was founded to promote international cooperation and solidarity. For a long time, Western countries have shaped the organization’s actions. However, in an increasingly multipolar world order, the balance of power is shifting. While countries in the Global North are partially withdrawing, those in the Global South are gaining influence.
What could multilateral cooperation look like in the future? This question was at the heart of our discussion with former UN Secretary-General H.E. Ban Ki-moon at this year’s Munich Security Conference – on the role of diplomacy and international solidarity in addressing global challenges.
