Breaking Point or Turning Point

What Role Can Europe Play in Africa’s Reproductive Health Future?

Breaking Point or Turning Point

March 3, 2026

Axica, Berlin

Africa’s growing population is significantly increasing demand for reproductive health services. At the same time, reductions in international funding programs such as USAID are exacerbating gaps in care across the continent. Strong, adequately financed health systems are essential to maintain access to health services and limit broader impacts on economic development, trade, and international cooperation.

In our interview publication “Reproductive Health at a Turning Point: Perspectives on Innovation, Financing, and Partnerships in a Changing World,” experts from across Africa’s health sector examine current service gaps, structural challenges, and potential pathways forward.

Closer collaboration between Germany, Europe, and African nations can strengthen global health care over the long term. We discussed the findings from our interviews with representatives from Germany and across Europe, together with our African interview partners, to identify opportunities for deeper cooperation in reproductive health.
