The Key to Africa’s Recovery
Salon: Investing in Women’s Health
October 26, 2021
Hotel Adlon Kempinski
The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities in many ways. Women and children were and are particularly affected, especially in the poorest countries. The Global Financing Facility (GFF) reported that since the beginning of the pandemic, more than two women and children have died for every COVID-19 death due to overburdened healthcare systems.
To better protect women from the impact of future global crises and improve their long-term health, we also focus on the role of climate change. After all, a lack of environmental protection has played a crucial role in the spread of the virus and other infectious diseases. This is a risk that will only increase as climate change progresses. On the sidelines of the World Health Summit, we discussed what Germany can do to help, with the Senegalese Minister of State, H.E. Prof. Awa Marie Coll Seck, and the physician and science journalist Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen, among others.
