Circle: Accelerating Change through Impact Investing in Africa
December 13, 2021
online / via Zoom
Africa is a market of the future. With its young, urban population and abundant resources, the continent offers vast potential and opportunities. However, in the eyes of many German investors, investing in Africa is often associated with high risks. At the Circle, in cooperation with shareholder PHINEO AG, we discussed the opportunities and challenges of impact investing with representatives of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF), KfW, the BMW Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as various investors.
Key Topics
Awareness
What are the opportunities for raising awareness of impact investing in Africa? How can trends be harnessed?
Cooperation
How can cooperation between different sectors (public, private and philanthropic) be strengthened? What are the most promising common actions?
Frameworks
What (policy) conditions and frameworks are needed to promote impact investing in Africa?
Impact investing aims not only for financial success, but also for measurable positive effects on the environment or society, thereby promoting social change. Impact investing is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Many sectors can be strengthened through impact investing: from social services (education, health, etc.), agriculture and infrastructure to climate change adaptation and green energy.
