The Africa Roundtable N°8

Green Finance in a New Geopolitical Reality

The Africa Roundtable N°8

June 1, 2025

Marrakesh

Africa is one of the regions most affected by the climate crisis. Although the continent holds 60% of the world’s solar potential and 30% of the critical minerals essential for the green transition, it receives less than 3% of global green finance. This gap between opportunity and funding is deepening — further exacerbated by the United States’ withdrawal from key areas of international cooperation and the Paris Climate Accord.

At the eighth edition of The Africa Roundtable, held as a side event of the Ibrahim Governance Weekend in Marrakesh, we explored how to mobilize more climate finance for Africa – through  creative and new financing mechanisms, and the acceleration of existing finance solutions, and strategic partnerships with Europe.
