Strong Women – Strong Economies
Empowering Women as the Key to Sustainable Development
Salon: Strong Women – Strong Economies
November 24, 2020
online / Zoom
Established in 1995, the Beijing Platform for Action aimed to enable women to participate equally in society. Even 25 years later, however, no country has fulfilled the commitments it made. The current global pandemic is further slowing progress toward gender equality. However, if women are involved in politics, business, and society, we can achieve the SDGs by 2030. In our virtual salon, we therefore discussed the challenges and opportunities of empowering women as economic leaders.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Action Platform, the Generation Equality Forum is to take place next year. One of the forum’s core themes is advancing economic equality for women. We would like to continue the dialogue on this issue beyond the forum. To start with, we discussed with four exceptional women how Africa and Europe can collaborate more closely to promote economic equality on both continents.
