Aiming at ending structural discrimination and disadvantage against women, the Beijing Platform for Action was established 26 years ago. Even so, none of the signatory states have fulfilled their commitments to date. Hence, the world is still far from achieving gender equality.
However, research has shown that equality and diversity increase economic productivity. It opens up future prospects for future generations, and ensures greater justice in all sectors of society.

The pandemic has slowed down many positive developments. However, prioritizing women in economic recovery could increase global GDP by up to 16 percent by 2030 according to McKinsey.
The Generation Equality Forum 2021 committed USD 40 billion toward this goal, representing the largest joint effort by governments, the private sector, and foundations in this area. Together with stakeholders from Germany and African countries, we discussed what expectations the German government now faces and what gender-equitable economic growth might look like.
