Climate Action and the Transition to a Resilient Economy
Circle: Beyond Commitments
July 2, 2026
Berlin
The impacts of climate change are being felt around the world, particularly on the African continent. Meanwhile, growing geopolitical tensions are pushing international climate finance further to the sidelines.
However, there is reason for hope: The expansion of renewable energy and new international alliances are paving the way for stronger cooperation among middle powers. Emerging economies, in particular, are driving this shift and now account for more than half of global solar power production.

As part of our Global Perspectives Circle, Dr. Ani Dasgupta, the president and CEO of the World Resources Institute, shared insights from his book, “The New Global Possible: Rebuilding Optimism in the Age of Climate Crisis.” He explains why there is reason for optimism amid the climate crisis, and explores how innovative partnerships can strengthen international cooperation, enabling us to respond more effectively.
Our discussion built on the key recommendations of our Commission, “A Changing World – Germany and the Global South,” on climate finance. Transformation can only succeed through strong partnerships in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
