Building Shared Health Security: An Investment Agenda for Africa and Europe
Conference: The Africa Roundtable N°10
June 10, 2026
Humboldt Forum, Berlin
Health security in Europe is closely linked to health security in Africa. African startups are developing artificial intelligence (AI)-based diagnostic tools, digital platforms for pharmaceutical supply chains, and biosimilars that are often cheaper and more widely usable than existing options. Meanwhile, the U.S. withdrawal of funding for global health is reshaping the international landscape and creating new opportunities for European partners.
At the 10th edition of The Africa Roundtable, we spoke with political, business, research, and civil society representatives from Europe and Africa about how the two continents can better protect their shared health.
We focussed on investing in local production, biotechnology, research, and innovation. Our discussion was informed by analyses from our knowledge partners APHRC and ECDPM on new ways to collaborate in research, data, and technology transfer, as well as the institutional conditions necessary for closer cooperation.
