Circle: Discussing Development Policies in a Multipolar World
June 11, 2024
Ex Château, Berlin
In a multipolar world confronted with a multitude of conflict, crisis and global challenges, knowledge exchange is crucial to create synergies among partners and identify the best solutions to enhance sustainable development. In this sense, Global Perspectives hosted an exclusive Circle with Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank. Together with Anna Bjerde as well as other representatives from politics, business, and academia, we discussed not only the World Bank’s efforts in fostering sustainable development but also Germany’s new role in today’s changing world.
Anna Bjerde shared insights on the World Bank’s reform to adapt and renew its procedures and processes in a changing world to respond to current geopolitical shifts in the international order. She highlighted the recent discussion on IDA replenishment, as well as the multifaceted strategies to uplift populations in emerging nations through policies fostering human capital via education and healthcare, pushing for gender equality, initiatives promoting financial inclusion and leveraging private capital to reach greater impact in response to today’s challenges.
