Circle: Germany’s Responsibility in Today’s Changing World

The growing scale, frequency and interconnectedness of crises and conflicts, coupled with cuts in development funding, mark a turning point in international cooperation. The countries of the so-called Global South bear the brunt of global challenges such as climate change, migration and inflation, and are disproportionately affected by the consequences of these crises.
At the same time, geopolitical shifts as underscored by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, have increased the need to develop new strategic yet trusted partnerships with these countries. Navigating these uncertainties requires Germany to explore and develop new forms of international partnership that take into account the interests and needs of all parties involved. Together with Bill Gates and Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, as well as other key representatives from politics, business and academia, we discussed Germany’s new role in today’s changing world.
