As 2024 Comes to an End
Let's Keep the Dialogue Going
We thank all our loyal companions and new friends in Europe, on the African continent, and worldwide for their trusting collaboration.
Germany needs new partners.
In 2024, we met with influential decision-makers whose input will continue to shape our work in the year ahead. Through ongoing exchange with international players from politics, business, academia, civil society, and the media, we have initiated new collaborations and intensified existing partnerships. Personal encounters and constructive dialogue remain the crucial foundation for mutual understanding. Our formats focused on future-oriented issues such as digital infrastructure, agricultural innovation, artificial intelligence, financial architecture and creative industries – all drivers of economic growth and social transformation, with a particular focus on the African continent.
Impulses for Future Partnerships
Digital Infrastructure
By 2025, half of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa will use mobile services. While digital infrastructure is critical to Africa's economic growth, but gaps in digital infrastrutcture and services as well as dependencies on foreign technology persist. In the seventh edition of The Africa Roundtable, we explored strategies to strengthen digital sovereignty and data control.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence has the potential to boost Africa's economy by 1.2 trillion USD, particularly in healthcare through improved access and disease prevention. At the World Health Summit 2024 and in our digital series "Global Perspectives on", we discussed best practices and digital sovereignty for Africa's AI development.
Agricultural Innovation
The African continent holds enormous agricultural potential: food demand is estimated to reach 1 trillion USD by 2030, with 65% of the world’s unused arable land. Digital innovations are already helping farmers increase productivity and tackle challenges such as climate change. The sixth edition of The Africa Roundtable analyzed these development opportunities.
International Financial Architecture
In the face of climate change and rising global debt, reforms to the global financial architecture are needed to create synergies between public and private capital. This year we engaged with experts like Anna Bjerde, Bill Gates, and David Milliband to explore approaches to promoting education, equality and economic participation.

New Comission
„A Changing World – Germany and the Global South“
The countries of the so-called Global South are gaining increasing strategic importance due to their demographic development, natural resources, and their key role in future technologies. Therefore, we established a commission that develops recommendations for action regarding Germany’s relations with the Global South. The commission is chaired by former Federal Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. The first results will be published in January, before the German elections.

It deals with pressing issues and challenges of the neighboring continents and develops partnership-based solutions and models for future cooperation. The conference focuses on the African perspective. We gather our participants twice a year, alternating between the European and African continents – this year in Berlin and Nairobi.
