Climate Change and Migration in Africa
A Call for Action
Salon: Climate Change and Migration in Africa
April 8, 2021
online / Zoom
Although Africa contributes little to global CO₂ emissions, the continent is among the most affected by climate change. Rising temperatures, droughts, and extreme weather are already driving migration and displacement. According to the World Bank, up to 86 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa could be forced to relocate within their own countries by 2050.
To address these challenges, Global Perspectives convened senior representatives from Africa and Europe at the conference “Climate Change and Migration: Point of No Return?!” The dialogue has since continued, focusing on climate-related mobility and concrete steps toward climate action.
