Her Health, Our Wealth

Elevating Family Planning & Women’s Health to boost the African Economy

Her Health, Our Wealth

July 2, 2024

Château Royal, Berlin

Women worldwide face a significant disadvantage in healthcare systems, spending 25 percent more of their lives in ill health compared to men. This disparity extends beyond health, impacting women’s financial independence and overall empowerment. Addressing this issue is not just about equality—it’s an economic imperative.

A McKinsey Health Institute study reveals the potential of closing this health gap: by 2040, it could boost the global economy by $1 trillion annually and reduce women’s sick leave by two-thirds—equivalent to creating 137 million full-time jobs.

Investing in women’s health through equal access to medical care and information is therefore not just ethically necessary but economically sound. It promotes gender equality, enhances quality of life, and drives global economic growth.

The German government as a whole, is standing for free decisions of women and girls about their body and their health.
Dr. Bärbel Kofler, MdB
State Secretary, BMZ
We need to listen to women and girls. And trust what they say their needs are. And then respond to those needs.
Dr. Gathari Ndirangu Gichuhi
Director Global Family Planning, Jhpiego
