Circle: Rethinking Germany’s Global Engagement amid Conflict and the Climate Crisis
June 18, 2024
SAP Data Space, Berlin
With David Miliband
Faced with an ever-expanding human impact of conflicts, the climate crisis and socio-economic disparity, there has never been a greater need for closer global cooperation. Yet, the global system is increasingly fragmented. Germany, as a key diplomatic player and one of the world’s major economies, can play a central role in defining how the global community effectively responds to these interdependent challenges.
Together with former UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband, CEO and President of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and selected stakeholders from politics, business, academia, and civil society, we discussed Germany’s role in the world and how it can better strengthen interconnectedness, build supportive narratives and fulfill its responsibilities in the international system. We looked at solutions for breaking down silos through intersectoral cooperation. The main goal is to create a more agile system that meets the needs of people in the most fragile and conflict-affected places.

How can Germany best shape its global role and responsibilities in the future?
