The Hidden Success for Fragile States
Reflections on Potentials and Challenges - Munich Security Conference 2017
Salon: The Hidden Success for Fragile States
February 19, 2017
Hotel Bayrischer Hof
Following our Side Event “Shaping Global Development“, we held an intensive dialogue on the challenges of politically fragile states and possible recommendations for action. Bruce Jones, Vice President and Director of Foreign Policy The Brookings Institute at The Brookings Institution, and Michael Keating, Special Representative Secretary-General for Somalia and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia, provided fruitful impulses for this purpose.

Gemeinsame Lunch-Diskussion mit The Brookings Institute im Rahmen der Münchner Sicherheitskonferenz
Our lunch discussion focused on the different contexts of political fragility between Afghanistan and Somalia and its consequences for the security situation in both countries. Both Somalia and Afghanistan face political instability, violence, conflict and poverty, and have to engage with different stakeholders. However, a closer look reveals the much more complex political situation in both countries.
